In line with the goals of the Engineering Department in enhancing the academic skills of students, the Student Development Committee in collaboration with Electrical & Electronics Engineering section conducted various seminars such as:
(i) Applications of GNU Octave Simulation Software in Control Engineering by Engr. Syed Fairose on February 6, 2019. The training was attended by Advanced Diploma and BTech students from Electrical and Mechanical Sections.
(ii) Project Design Preparation & Presentation by Engr. Arun Balaji on January 29, 2019. Students from Electrical section taking Final Year Projects attended.
(iii) Applications of Power World Simulation Software in Power Systems by Engr. Jonathan Talosig was an enrichment workshop for students taking course in Numerical Methods
Engineering Department organized a Staff Gathering - “TAJDID” for all department staff on January 9, 2019 held at the SCT-Multipurpose Hall. This gathering aimed to strengthen camaraderie and teamwork among the staff.
Various fun activities and games that fostered teamwork and bonding were enjoyed by everyone. Cumulative scoring was done per section and trophy was awarded to Mechanical Section who emerged as winner. The event was hosted by Mr. Haris Bin Arif and Ms. Jyothi Gidavir.
The gathering concluded with a sumptuous lunch shared and enjoyed by everyone. Complimentary souvenirs were distributed to all participants.
On October 30, 2018, Mechanical Engineering Section conducted a seminar on “Finite Element Analysis using Solidworks 2015”.
SOLIDWORKS software is a powerful CAD/CAM/CAE package used widely for product development solutions. Using the software helps industries reduce manufacturing cost, improve product quality and increase production.
Mechanical Engineering Section –Diploma Second Year students visited ABI SHOWATECH OMAN LLC (FZC), Salalah Company on 8th October, 2018. This experience was a good opportunity for students to understand the CNC programming, CNC machining centers and quality control instruments like CMM (co-ordinate measuring machines), checking geometrical tolerances, surface finish per design specification and other related procedures used by the company.
In support of the on-going Campaign for Electricity Conservation in the Sultanate ,students from Civil and Architecture Section of SCT-Engineering Department actively participated in the workshop which was held on October 4,2018 sponsored by Dakkah Engineering Services Company and NAMA Company.
The workshop was conducted by two young Architects Hanan Mohamed AL-Kasbi and Afifa Ali AL-Dhuhli; they introduced activities and exercises that made the students experience new atmosphere of learning. There was an interesting discussion on Sustainable Building Design and Energy Conservation in Buildings creating integrated sustainable strategy using solar panels.
While engaging the students on the use of Autodesk Revit Architecture, the trainers emphasized the importance of constant practice in using this software or any other software to improve their skills and to keep up with the fast paced changes in technology.
Students gave positive feedback of the training and suggested to have more workshops in the future where speakers use Arabic as a medium in the lectures and practical activities.
The workshop ended with the sponsors distributing attendance certificates to all participants, and as a token of gratitude, the trainers were given simple memento.
Gratitude was also extended to HoD - Engineering Department, HoS-Civil & Architectural Section, Architectural staff and Student Development committee for their kind support that made the event a success.
SCT- Engineering Department celebrated Engineering Day 2018 on May 10, 2018 with the theme “Engineers Make the Difference “. The event commenced with an inspiring opening remarks of the Head of Engineering Department (HoD)-Dr. Ali Rafeet. He thanked and awarded recognition to the local industry partners like Salalah Methanol Company, Oman Vegetable Oil, Dhofar Cattlefeed, Lulu Hypermarket, and Al Shanfari Group of Companies for their support.
Engineering Day 2018 event showcased students’ best projects. Fun, creativity and innovative skills depicted in the section booths and scientific games plus a show of stock knowledge in the quiz competition.
Of the 14 Students’ Final Year Projects from different specializations, Civil & Architecture Engineering Section won the First Place while Mechanical Engineering Section got the Second Place.
Booths designed by the students were unique, artistic and crafted from low-cost and recycled materials. These all made a difference! Civil and Architecture Section booth was judged “Best Booth”.
Students’ actively participated in the different section fun games as on-the-spot prizes were awarded to winners.
Quiz competition anchored by Diploma First Year highlighted the afternoon session with the active participation of students from all specialization including the audience. Civil & Architecture Engineering section bagged the trophy for First Place while Chemical Engineering and Diploma First Year got vouchers for Second and Third Place respectively.
The Head of Engineering Department-Dr. Ali Rafeet assisted by the Heads of Sections from Engineering Department awarded the winners.
The SCT- Engineering Department Staff Development Committee organized a Staff Social Gathering on April 29, 2018 to strengthen camaraderie and teamwork.
Social activities that develop interpersonal relationships to reinforce workplace culture impacting employee happiness and strengthen bonds among staff like the games of tug-of-war, musical chairs, stack rack, relay were enjoyed and participated by all.
A trophy was given to Civil Section that emerged as winner in the events through a point- based system, their second time in a row.
Finally the gathering concluded with a sumptuous lunch that everyone enjoyed.
In collaboration with experts from the local industry, Salalah College of Technology - Engineering Department conducted “Mock Interview Workshop 2018” with engineering students on March 3, 2018.
This mock interview was arranged for mutual exchange of information between employer and future job applicants. The probable employer evaluated the attitude, technical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills of students to fit the demands of organizations.
It served as an avenue to understand the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them towards the right direction in their future career.

As part of the Staff & Student Development activity, Mechanical Engineering Section conducted a seminar on “Introduction to ANSYS – FEA Software” for the Mechanical Engineering staff and students on 6th March 2018. Dr. Mithun Vinayaka Kulkarni, Lecturer- Mechanical Engineering section served as the resource person.
ANSYS software is used to design products and semiconductors, create simulated computer models of structures, electronics, or machine components that test the properties and functions without building test products or conducting crash tests.
As part of the Students’ Development activity, Mechanical Engineering Section has organized a guest lecture on “Manufacturing Processes and Testing Methods (NDT)” for the Mechanical Engineering students on 11th February 2018. Mr. Ali Mohammed Al-Zawamri, Team Leader- Inspection, Reliability Department of Salalah Methanol Company, LLC (SFC) served as the resource person and delivered the guest lecture.
As part of the Staff Development activity, Mechanical Engineering Section faculty had an industrial visit to Dunes Oman LLC and Dover Middle East LLC on 7 December 2017 and 1 February 2018.This was an opportunity for the staff to have an exposure to the company facilities.
The visit aimed to identify the possible projects to be done by Mechanical Engineering students in collaboration with local industries.
As part of the Students’ Development activity, Mechanical Engineering Section has organized an industrial visit for Diploma, Advanced Diploma and B.Tech. students of Mechanical Engineering program. They visited Dunes Oman LLC and Salalah Methanol Company (SMC) on 29th January 2018 and 13th February 2018. The students were given briefing about the company’s operations before giving them an exposure to the different equipment and machineries used in the plant.
As part of Student’s Development Activity, the Mechanical Engineering section has organized Mechanical Skill Competition – Solidworks Modeling Skill for the Mechanical Engineering student’s community. Students from Advanced Diploma and Baccalaureate level were participated in the competition. The following staff members from the section have organized the event.

As part of Students’ Development Activity, Mechanical Engineering section conducted Mechanical Skill Competition on AutoCAD Drafting Skill for the Mechanical Engineering students. Diploma First and Second Year students participated in the competition.
The event was organized by Dr. Boopathi Raja V., Mr. Ansari Faiyaz Ahmed, Mr. Hashim Al Haddadi and Mr. Dexter Decano.

Salalah College of Technology-Engineering Department celebrated Engineering Day 2017 on May 25, 2017 with the theme “Engineering our Future”. The celebration commenced with the ribbon cutting led by Dr. Ali Mohsin Issa Rafeet, Head of Engineering Department. This was followed by reciting the Quran and welcome address by the HoD. Alumni working in different companies shared their experiences and views that inspired the students in preparing for the job market. Highlighting the event was the project competition among engineering students from Civil Engineering & Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Among the 21 projects, Architecture section won 1st and 3rd Place while the Mechanical Engineering section won the 2nd Place. Job interview preparation seminar was also conducted during the day. Recognition of best performing students and awarding of winners concluded the one day event.
Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs-Dr. Said Al Mashikhi; Asst. Dean for Admin and Finance-Mr. Amar Al Shanfari ; QA Unit Head- Mr. Khalid Al Mashani; Head of Business Department- Dr. Alya Al Nasseri and Head of IT Department- Mr. Vijipaul P were also present to grace the event.
As part of staff development program, a training program on “CNC Simulation and Machining” was organized on 16th May 2017. The speaker was Dr. Kumaradhas P., Lecturer, Mechanical Engineering Section.
