Human Recourse Development Committee of Business Department organized “workshop on CGPA calculation” on Tuesday, 26th January. The resource person was Mr. Ali Said Ali Akaak, lecturer from Business Studies Department of Salalah College of Technology. Mr. Ali Said Ali Akaak used the Mark Management System to elaborately explain its applications, specific to the needs of Business Department. He explained how this can be used at its best to bring efficiency into advising work.
Dr. Mohammed Ali Said Bait Ali Sulaiman, the acting Head of Business Department thanked Mr. Ali Said Ali Akaak for sharing his knowledge and expertise with staff members in using Mark Management System. Mr. Ali Said Ali Akaak was presented a certificate of appreciation.
Human Recourse Development Committee of Business Department organized a “workshop on Marks Management System” as part of its staff development initiatives. The event was conducted on Tuesday, 26th January. The resource persons were Mr. Allan and Mr. Barnard, lecturers from Information Technology Department of Salalah College of Technology. Both the resource persons explained the features of the software programme “Mark Management System (MMS)” developed by them. MMS is an indigenously built program to help the student-advisors to calculate CGPA, and build scenarios to move out of probation. Department staff practiced the program on the computer system to get familiarity.
At the end of the session Dr. Mohammed Ali Said Bait Ali Sulaiman, the acting Head of Business Department thanked the resource persons for their efforts in developing the program to improve the efficiency.
Business Studies Department of Salalah College of Technology has organized an event on January 19th to thank the services rendered by Dr. Myrna Barnachea as acting Head of Business Studies department for the last four semesters. , since she was relieved from her responsibilities as Head of the Department.
Dr. Mohammed Ali Said Bait Ali Sulaiman, the acting Head of Business Department welcomed the staff. In his remarks he appreciated Dr. Myrna for her untiring efforts in strengthening the Department. As a token of appreciation, Dr.Myrna was presented a memento and certificate of appreciation.
As part of its Staff Development Program, the HRD Committee organized a workshop entitled “WORK STRESS MANAGEMENT AND HEALTH GUIDE” on Tuesday, 24th November, 2015 in BUSS-Lab1, Business Building. The invited guest speaker was Dr. Geetha, a General Practitioner from Life Line Hospital, Salalah. The workshop started at 12:00 noon with a welcoming and introduction speech by Dr. Myrna M.B. (Acting HoD, Business Studies Department).
Dr. Geetha started the workshop describing stress and its causes during working hours. She shared some valuable ways of managing stress by effective exercises and yoga techniques. She also suggested useful health guides for stress free life. There was also interaction among the audience where few Staff shared their own stress management practices. The Staff appreciated this workshop which enhanced and updated their knowledge for healthy lifestyle. After the activity, Dr. Myrna expressed the Department’s gratitude and awarded a plaque of appreciation to the guest speaker.
As the people of Sultanate of Oman commemorated the Founding Anniversary of this nation, the Business Studies Department of Salalah College of Technology celebrated the 45TH Oman National Day with simplicity, laughter and thanksgiving.
The celebration was held in BUSS-14C room of the Business Building on November 24, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Business Lecturers of diverse nationalities expressed their sincerest congratulations, love and gratefulness to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and to the people of the Sultanate. They wished His Majesty long life, good health and strength, and the Sultanate of Oman continued success and prosperity.
The said event was made possible through the efforts of the Department HRD Committee chaired by Ms. Seemab Rana, Coordinator-Ms. Madiha, and Lecturers-Ms. Ibtesam & Ms. Buthaina.
The Marketing Section of Business Studies Department organized a guest lecture to promote Marketing as one of the most promising Business specializations in the labor market titled ”Career Opportunities for Marketing Aspirants” among Business students of Salalah College of Technology. It was held on 22nd March 2015 at 10:00am to 12:00nn. The venue was at BUSS-15C. Dr. Maksud A.M., Marketing lecturer, heartily welcomed the guests, students and faculty members who were present.
The guest lecturer from Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) was Ms. Maryam Abdullah Ali Al Al Zahar Al Yafi, HR Specialist. The lecture was about marketing career for aspirants in Oman. The session started with a presentation and followed by a discussion about marketing career opportunities and difficulties. After the lecture, Mr. Khalid Al Shanfari, Marketing lecturer, also shared his knowledge and experience related to marketing career. Also, many students conveyed their perceptions about marketing job. Ms. Leena Omar Ali Saar, Advanced Diploma Marketing student, shared her opinion about marketing career and the difference between marketing and sales. The activity was successful as reflected in the active participation of the students during the Q & A portion. Faculty members from Marketing Section present were Dr. Mohammed Ali Said Bait Ali Sulaiman, Dr. Amal Al-Shahri, Ms. Buthaina Said Mohammed Swakhroon and Mr. Quadri Syed Faisal. Dr. Maksud concluded the session with word of thanks while Mr. Khalid awarded the token of Department’s appreciation (memento and certificate) to the guest lecturer.
The Business Department through the collaborative efforts of its Formal Logic teachers held an Inter-Section Quiz Bowl competition last March 17, 2015,Tuesday at the Business Room 15c, Business Building. The quiz bowl was organized in order to enhance critical thinking skills of the student participants and also promote teamwork. The competition was participated by a total of 42 students from IT, Engineering and Business departments who are registered in Formal Logic classes this semester ( Semester 2 AY 2014-2015 ). There were a total of 14 teams with three members in each team. The winners received certificates and prizes while all non-winners received certificates as well. Below are the list of winners:/p>
The Business Studies Department organized a guest lecture for the students of ‘Entrepreneurship’ course by Mr. Imad Al-Rawas, Head of Support and Assistance Department of Al Rafd Fund in Dhofar Governorate, on Sunday, March 8, 2015. The main purpose of this guest lecture is to enlighten the students with practical knowledge on some governmental fund opportunities available for the potential entrepreneurs.
Mr. Imad Al-Rawas started his lecture on “Al Rafd Fund” by clarifying the purpose of establishing the fund, the facilities provided, and the targeted category of the fund. He illustrated the qualifications and documents required to get a loan and the percentage to repay the loan after signing the contract. Later, he explained about the four major funding programs such as: Mawrid program, which targets those under the social security system and people with physical challenges for projects with a loan of RO 10,000; Taasess program, which targets job seekers who wish to start projects with a loan of up to RO 20,000; Araayda program, which targets entrepreneurs, craftsman, businessmen and women with loans up to RO 100,000 and Tazeez program which provides additional loans to those beneficiaries of the fund who seek to expand their ventures.
The Staff and Students of Entrepreneurship course attended this lecture. The participants raised many interesting issues such as fund eligibility criteria and payback scenarios for those fund beneficiaries who face unsuccessful ventures, which were clarified later by the presenter.
This guest lecture was arranged by Mr. Khalid Al-Shanfri, Chairman, Industrial Link committee of Salalah College Technology. Dr. Myrna, Acting HoD of Business Studies and Mr. Khalid thanked the guest speaker Mr. Imad Al-Rawas and presented a memento to him. They have also thanked Mr. Salim Kashoob, Head of Information and Public Relations section for his kind cooperation in arranging this seminar.
