Recently, Department of Business Studies and Entrepreneurial Club of Salalah College of Technology hosted a team from Al-Injaz Oman. During this visit they met the two teams of students, who are participating in Al-Injaz Oman Company Competition, along with Dr. Mohammed Ali Sulaiman, HoD- Business, Mr. Khalid Shanfari, Chairman- Industrial Link Committee and Mr. Ahmed Ghazali, Faculty- Accounting Section.

The visiting team members briefed the participating students about the process and guidelines of the competition. They mentioned the main motive of Al-Injaz Oman Company Competition, which is to make the students get to learn how to start up their entrepreneurial companies. Since many teams from all over Sultanate participate in this program, it provides a great platform for students to enhance their skills; especially innovative and creative thinking, brainstorming, business, leadership, team work and competition. Such skills not only help the students in developing them as future entrepreneurs but also in improving their academic performances.

Mr. Khalid Shanfari and Mr. Ahmed Ghazali from business studies department will be guiding the students on their projects. Mr. Mohammed Hussain Al-Hafeedh from Dhofar Power Company has volunteered to guide the students in technical issues related to their projects.

To conclude with, Dr. Mohammed Ali Sulaiman thanked the team members from Al-Injaz Oman for their valuable insights on this program and wished the student teams for a successful participation in this competition.

The Business Studies Department of SCT takes pride to announce that the recently organized symposium was successful enough to meet the purpose of bringing the academia, industry and the government under one roof to pave ways for the future growth of the Dhofar region.

The symposium titled “Business in Dhofar region: Trends, opportunities and Challenges” was conducted on the 26th May, 2016 at Crowne Plaza Resort, Salalah, under the auspices of H.E. Abdullah Aqil Ahmed Al-Ibrahim, Acting Deputy Secretary to Governor of Dhofar.

Among the prestigious invitees, who attended the symposium and shared their views were Mr.Ahmed Ali Akaak, DCEO, Salalah Port Services Company; Mr.Wael Abdullah, General Manager, Carmeuse Majan LLC; Mr. Mohammed Qatan, Acting General Manager,Gypsum Board Company LLC; Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, Dean, College of Commerce and Business Administration, Dhofar University; Dr. Mahaad Issa Shamas, Deputy General Manager, Carmeuse Majan LLC; Mr. Javed Akhtar, Marketing Manager, Salalah Methanol Company and Mr. Ali Salim Ali Al Maashani, Operations Manager, Raysut Industrial Area.

The Human Resource Section of the Business Studies department organized a Mock Interview on 4th May 2016 for Graduating Bachelors Students of the department. The Mock Interview was conducted by a panel of selected members from Accounting & HR sections along with Mr. Ghazi Farah Al-Rawas, Manager, Al Maha Petroleum products Marketing company SAOG.

Mock interviews have been an initiative of the HR section under the guidance of Dr. Raghu Ram, HoS, HR Section since the last few years. This year it witnessed a little change as Dr. Mohammed Ali Sulaiman, HoD directed that a representative from the industry should be invited to be present during the mock interview for a real feel.

The students from Accounting and HR Sections took part in the Mock Interview and took the advantage of facing real time interview questions in the real time interview room. At the end of each interview session, the students were provided with feedback and detailed information on the areas which needed improvement like their communication skills, subject knowledge, behavior aspects by the panel members.

Mr. Ali Said Akaak and Mr. Khalid Al-Shanfari‘s efforts are lauded in coordinating this event and making it a success. Others in the panel were Mr. Ahmed Ghazali, Mr. Pavan Kumar, Dr. Raghu Ram, Dr. Navaneeth and Dr. Shelly, whereas Ms. Sahara and Ms. Wajeeha helped in various ways to make this event go smooth.

Business Studies Department organized Staff Development Program on “Office Productivity Series” which was held on 17th May 2016, at BUSS 8L for the faculty members of the department. The resource person was Mr. Rubin Alce. Dr. Mohammed Ali Sulaiman, HOD of Business Studies Department welcomed the faculty members for the workshop. The speaker expressed his gratitude to the HOD and all the members present in the workshop. He explained the importance of the workshop on Office Productivity. He continued his presentation with hands- on exercise to the faculty members on various tools which can be used to make professional presentation. He maximized the workshop with full enthusiasm for one hour. The faculty members were happy and expecting for more workshops in the future. It was a very useful workshop for the faculty members. A certificate of Appreciation was presented to the Speaker by the Dr. Mohammed Ali Sulaiman, HOD of Business Studies Department.
