Biogas is a gas which mainly consists of methane (CH4) and carbon-di-oxide (CO2). Biogas can be produced from wastes like kitchen waste, animal manure, agriculture and industrial wastes. Biogas is a clean and renewable from of energy and substitute for conventional sources of energy such as fossil fuels which are causing ecological problems and at the same time depleting at a faster rate. The main aim of the work is to produce biogas from wheat bran based wastewater from Salalah Mills Co. (SAOG). Wastewater was prepared by dissolving 0.2 kg of bran in 5 L of water. Bran wastewater samples were analyzed for sugars, starch, protien, lipids, total solids, total suspended solids, volatile suspended solids,total dissolved solids, ash, pH, chemical oxygen demand, biological oxygen demand and dissolved oxygen .
Results revealed significant reduction in total soluble sugars, starch, total solids, total suspended solids, volatile suspended solids, pH, and chemical oxygen demand and negligible reduction in ash. Hence, anaerobic digestion of bran wastewater is a promising feedstock for biogas production.
