IT Department Welcomes Rejoined Staff Featured

A fresh start for the rejoined Omani staff of the IT department as they were formally welcomed after completion of higher studies. Ms. Melissa Juanillo, Chair of the Human Resource Committee, coordinated the induction program held on Tuesday, 9th of October 2018.

The program started with a warm welcome by Mr.Viji Paul, Head of IT Department to the rejoined staff Dr. Salim Ali Salim Al Amri, Dr. Mohammed Musallam Bakhit Al Mahri and Ms. Faiza Hafidh Abdulaziz Al Rawas.

Dr. Mohammed Maqsood, member of the HR Committee presented the overview of the department’s facilities, updates on current number of lecturers and technicians and the systems used in the college.

To assist the rejoined staff to perform their tasks effectively, they were introduced to the different applications relevant to their work. The features and functionalities of these systems were demonstrated by the respective committee chairs/in charge. Mr. Mohammed Sulaiman, Chair of Registrar, discussed the College Information Management System (CIMS). Mr. Jonathan Peter Glycer Tambaoan, Section Head of Networking/Internet and E-Security and member of the SARS Team, gave an overview of Student Academic Record System (SARS). Mr. Bernard Ugalde, Chair of the Student Development and developer of MMS, together with Mr. Yashir Ambula, Chair of Probation, explained the Marks Management System (MMS) thru a short video presentation. Lastly, Mr. Syed Khaja Mohideen gave a walkthrough on how to use the E-learning portal. Mr. Viji Paul facilitated the discussion with added information regarding new systems and policies.

The department is honoured to welcome the rejoined staff and looking forward to their valuable contributions to the achievement of the objectives of the department and the college as a whole.


IT Students qualify for National level in the 2018-2019 Huawei ICT Competition Middle East Featured

The IT department proudly congratulates Munther Hassan Salim Al-Mashikhi and Yousuf Ahmed Mohammed Sabah Al Rawas BTech-Networking students who qualified in the “Huawei Information and Communications Technology Competition Middle East 2018-2019”. The preliminary competition was an online exam using the educational platform of Huawei accessed simultaneously by 700 students from various universities and colleges across the sultanate last October 2, 2018. The qualified students will advance to the national competition on November to be held in Muscat and will have the chance to represent the sultanate in the prestigious regional competition in China.

Kudos to all the staff in Networking and Internet and E-Security (NIES) section spearheaded by Mr. Jonathan Peter Glycer Tambaoan for the great effort of molding the students to be globally competitive. Congratulations as well to the rest of IT students who joined the preliminaries.

The entire SCT family wishes best of luck to the qualifiers and extends full support in bringing pride to the college community and beloved country Oman.


Workshop on “Skills Enhancement for Project Students” Featured

The IT Department has welcomed the academic year 2018-19 with a prolific opening this first semester with a workshop conducted entitled “Skills Enhancement for the Project Students”. The said workshop was organized by the Database section under the leadership of Mr. G.Baskar, HOS-DB section with the active participation of the section members namely: Mr. Muhammed Azeem Qureshi, Mr. Kashif Majeed Sha, Mr. Mohammed Ateeq and Dr. Chandra Paul. The event was successfully conducted last September 25, 2018 which was actively attended by all students from Advanced Diploma and B.Tech programs held at IT1L in IT Bldg.

The workshop aimed to re-enforce the skills of the Course Project students in making project proposal, project management, database design and modeling as a way to improve, strengthen and achieve quality project outputs of the IT students.
