It is the aim of the college to produce well-equipped graduates that meet the varying demands of the industries. Thus, it ensures that the facilities are state-of-the-art and updated to expose students in a real-world and practical experience while learning. To pursue this, the college has taken a bigger step to seek for initiatives by establishing a partnership with SEMBCORP Salalah. SEMBCORP Salalah is a power and water company who developed, financed, built, owns and operates the Salalah independent water and power plant in Oman. SEMBCORP funded the upgrading of the Network laboratory of the Networking and Internet and E-Security (NIES) section of the IT department the following: CISCO Lab bundle, computers, server, laptop and printer. This was successfully inaugurated on November 4, 2018 at IT Bldg.
The inauguration formally opened and anchored by Mr. Jonathan Peter Glycer Tambaoan, the HOS-NIES section. This was followed by welcome remarks by Mr. Viji Paul, HOD-IT department who cited that he is positive that these new resources would serve as additional tools in the implementation of a more advanced curriculum and program through course projects, practical exercises and hands on applications.
The College Dean, Dr. Hamdan Al-Manthari, expressed his gratitude for the partnership and the generosity of SEMBCORP and is looking forward for continuity of this endeavor for the mutual benefits of both.
As part of SEMBCORP’s social responsibility, the CEO of SEMBCORP Salalah Mr. Alex Miquel, shared the vision of the company to contribute to the enrichment of the workforce by working together with academes in preparing marketable and industry ready graduates.
A memento was presented by the college Dean to SEMBCORP Salalah and was accepted by the CEO.
Best projects and winners of national competitions were presented by students during the inauguration. Ms. Ghalyah Qahtan Said Khuwar and Ms. Tafool Mohammed Mohad Al-Mashani shared their BTech Networking Course Project entitled:” IOT Based Automated Climate Control for Plant Growth”. Ms. Fatima Abdul Rasheed Moosa Al Balushi, the silver medalist in the Oman Skills: Graphics Design Competition showcased her piece. Ms. Fatma Al-Mashani presented the “Smart Trash Bin Collection and Monitoring System” who won Gold Prize for Environment Domain and Silver Prize for Smart City Category during the IoT Olympics 2018.
An appreciation speech was given by Mr. Majeed Bassem Awadh Bait Al-Zain, a BTECH Networking specialization student.
The event was culminated with a symbolic ribbon cutting led by the college Dean and the CEO of SEMBCORP Salalah. Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Mohammed Basaddiq, a networking student demonstrated the use of the networking equipment to all the guests together with the other networking students Mr. Ahmed Aqeel Alawi Moqabeel, and Mr. Khalid Ali Salim Mohammed Al-Shanfary.
The inauguration was graced also by the College Council, staff and students of IT department and Mr. Salim Mohammed Al Mashikhi, HR and Admin Manager of SEMBCORP Salalah.
