Soar high Salalah College of Technology! We proudly congratulate Yousuf Al Rawas and Munther Al Mashikhi both IT Networking Bachelor students and teacher-in-charge Mr. Hatim Al-Mashikhi for bringing home the Excellent Academy Award – a seal of SCT’s teaching excellence, from the recently concluded Huawei ICT Competition Regional Finals held in Shenzhen China last 25 November 2018.
As part of the Skills Enhancement Program of the IT Department, the Database section headed by Mr. G. Baskar conducted a lecture entitled “Understanding UNIX and its importance in DBA’s life” on November 25, 2018 from 12:00-1:00 PM. The guest speaker was Mr. Maaz Dilawar Khan, Senior Oracle Apps Database Administrator from Dhofar Cattle Feed (S.A.O.G.).
The lecture were participated by Advance Diploma and B. Tech database specialization students. The speaker shared the importance of UNIX/Linux fundamentals in the life of a Database Administrator (DBA). He also emphasized the important functions of a DBA in the organization. Future trends like Cloud Storage were also presented. The participants actively participated by asking queries related to DBA functions such as backup, recovery and disaster management.
The successful activity was made possible with the support of the On the Job Training (OJT) and Industrial Link Committee of IT Department chaired by Dr. Ujjwal Agarwal.
Students from IS and IT sections of Information Technology (IT) Department had a visit at Dhofar Cattle Feed Co. (S.A.O.G.) (Al Safwah Dairy & Beverages) last November 12, 2018 from 10:00-12:30 p.m. It was organized by the On-the Job Training (OJT) and Industrial Link Committee chaired by Dr. Ujjwal Agarwal with the support of Mr. Zahid Mahmood, Head of IT section and Dr. Abhishek Dubey, Head of IS section.
The industry visit was divided into two sessions. In the first session, students toured the production plant and the second session, the students were given a chance to observe the company’s IT Department. The details of the sessions are as follows:
Session I - Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Dahab, Senior Dairy Plant Manager Dhofar Cattle Feed, welcomed the students. He explained the Quality Control procedures and various products of company. After that, the students visited the production plant to see the fully automatic production unit of different dairy products like milk, curd, long life milk and beverages.
Session II - Mr. Ali Kashoob, the IT Manager of Dhofar Cattle Feed, presented the applications used such as Oracle and Linux. He also showed the network implementation as well as the different processes and working procedures of the IT Department. Mr. Ali shared his experience with all students about the work culture and practical experience in the industry. Student also had a chance to see the server room.
Through this industrial visit, student’s got a real-time experience and exposure of the working environment which will be helpful for them in their future career. Further, this opportunity allowed them to have a glimpse on the practical perspective as how theoretical concepts learned inside the classroom are put to into action.
