ETC Helpdesk

ETC Helpdesk ensures that all IT technical requests of the staff are logged, assigned and prioritized accordingly and will be attended by ETC technical support staff. The Helpdesk is looking to support the College with a new system in attending to all IT technical problems via phone, email and the web-based system to resolve problems.

The ETC Helpdesk provides a system that will give an effective technical Helpdesk service to Salalah College of Technology (SCT).

Specifically, the helpdesk:

  • gives technical support staff a proper and organized way of job delegation,
  • provides systematic procedures for recording and responding to technical calls from the staff,
  • prioritizes the calls received according to priority.
  • formally records and documents each technical service request in the Helpdesk Control System(HCS)

Service Guidelines

All telephone technical requests should be answered by the assigned technician using a standard Helpdesk greeting.

All technical request/complaints must be acknowledged and recorded immediately and every effort must be made to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

For solutions requiring specific skills, a technical support staff should be assigned to assist and troubleshoot the problem.

The service is available between 8:00AM and 3:00PM, from Saturday – Wednesday. Student Services

The college goal "We will provide excellent student services that support learning in technological education" (SP Goal 7) is perfectly in line with the college vision which aims to provide demonstrably high quality teaching, learning and research (QAM Section 1.3).

Student Affairs (SA) is a service department, which handles SSS. The main functions of the department are to keep students' records, organise and support various students' activities such as social, cultural, religious and sports activities. It also provides various student services such as medical, student orientation and graduate follow up.

Students in SCT are broadly divided into three categories: Students in the Foundation Program (FP), Post-Foundation Specialisation Programs and those undergoing OJT or EPT. SSS are planned according to annual projections of number of students in each category.

The various activities that are planned and managed by SA are: admission, registration, data-base of students, induction, counseling, graduate follow-up, OJT, medical services, extra curricular activities and graduation. All these activities are planned and managed based on the financial, human and physical resources.

Facilities and Resources

The college provides an excellent student services in terms of Information Technology support. The ETC is the center responsible in delivering and managing IT facilities and resources in the college. The center also ensure that all departments specially academic will receive learning support in technological education by making available high quality, modern and cost effective IT facilities and resources.Some of these facilities are as follow:

    A. Network Operation Centre

The Network Operation Center (NOC) handled by the Network Administrator and the ETC Technical Support Team are made of well trained network technicians, which their function is to design, install, administrate and support college's computer Local Area Network (LAN), WIDE Area Network (WAN), network segment and internet and intranet network system, as well as, providing day-to-day onsite network administrative support in a variety of college work environments.

The Network Operation Center under the supervision of Computer Services Section maintains college's computer network (wired and wireless) hardware and software through the process of problem identification, analysis and provision of effective solutions. NOC is also in charge of the college's network (wired and wireless) security, configuring, implementing, and managing the on-going operations of numerous SCT servers where it makes network secured and is utilized in proper manner and in an effectiveness and efficiently way so to ensure its availability and viability to college users and according to college by-laws and laws of the country.

   B. All Computer Laboratories

Currently, SCT has total of 28 air conditioned computer laboratories which equipped with high end equipment, up to date model of computers, multimedia projectors and some laboratories are having smart board technology and connected to intranet and internet for innovative classroom instruction.

    C. Library Facilities

The SCT Library was founded in 1996. It uses Dewy Decimal System. It comprises huge English Titles and some Arabic and English Periodicals. The Books are displayed on open shelves which allow the Students and Staff to get in touch with all sort books directly. Presently, the SCT Library is progressively developed, using modern and Hi-Tech facilities

E-brary, On.line Catalog, Computerized Borrowing and Returning of Books using Barcode Technology are some services that can be used and enjoyed by the students and staff.

Annually, the ETC identifies and provide from all academic departments IT requirements. The department heads are responsible for the management and supervision of teaching and learning facilities and resources. In case of technical problems, the center specifically the support staff will diagnose and fix  the problems immediately to avoid some delays to the learning process of the students.

Aside from the facilities supervised by the Educational Technology Centre, lots of IT and some educational resources are also managed by  the centre.

Educational Services Section

The Educational Services Section (ESS) is the second section of Educational Technology Center that provides the educational needs of the college, in terms of support like equipment, reproduction of learning materials and other related services toward achieving high quality education.

The ESS acts as an agent of change where it helps to formulate policy on technology-supported teaching and learning in the aim of maximizing the college resources utilization, flexibility and accessibility around the clock.

Formulated responsibilities of this section are listed below:

  • To promote better and flexible learning environment and to provide technical support to the teachers and students with appropriate trainings, to equip them with the proper operation and handling of learning support equipment and aids. 
  • To provide teaching staff with adequate education materials and services such as photocopying service and printing services and the like. 
  • To maintain adequate learning resources by the providing all equipment and devices supervised by the section. 
  • To provide a different types of multimedia services.

 

Head of Educational Services Section  Responsibilities and Authorities (Article 19A)

 The Head of the Educational Services, who is a teaching staff member, will have the following responsibilities and authority:

  • Working towards providing the teaching and the technical support staff with the necessary educational materials and training them for a better utilization of educational resources and aids.  
  • Classifying the section's educational materials and equipment, in addition to organizing their use.   
  • Updating, developing and maintaining the section’s educational materials and equipment.   
  • Supporting workshops, academic gatherings, seminars, and conferences in cooperation with the other concerned committees, departments and respective sections.   
  • Supervising the educational technology resources for self-access learning.   
  • Producing various educational aids for the benefit of the educational process, in cooperation with the concerned centers and departments.  
  • Evaluating staff performance and forwarding the appraisal forms to the Head of the Educational Technology Center.   
  • Carrying out any other tasks assigned by the Head of the Educational Technology Center.

Library Section

The SCT Library was founded in 1996. It uses Dewy Decimal System. It comprises huge English Titles and some Arabic and English Periodicals. The Books are displayed on open shelves which allow the Students and Staff to get in touch with all sort books directly. Presently, the SCT Library is progressively developed, using modern and Hi-Tech facilities. (See Library Services). The college library is under the supervsion of Educational Technology Centre that primarily supports the academic instructional and curricular activities, research programs through organized, relevant, and fast delivery of information services.

The Physical building facilities comprises with two storeys. The ground floor reading area is dedicated for female students and the upper floor for male reading and research area. Both reading areas comprises with on-line and internet ready computers for self-access.

The library records its materials using Dewey, classifying their subject which divides knowledge into 10 divisions:

The Head of the Library will have the following responsibilities and authority:

  •  Specifying and meeting college needs for research resources in coordination with centers and departments.  
  • Safeguarding the library materials and providing a suitable environment for reading and research.  
  • Organizing and classifying the library records, research resources and setting up a borrowing system.  
  • Cooperating with other institutions to exchange academic and research materials.  
  • Evaluating staff performance and forwarding the appraisal forms to the Head of the Educational Technology Center.  
  • Carrying out any other tasks assigned by the Head of the Educational Technology Center.

Circulation - This facility service is situated at the ground floor of IT building. Circulation uses autiomated RIF borrowing system for fastest tracking of the books borrowed and returning. SCT implements this modern hi-tech facility. However everyone is reminded of the following borrowing regulations:

ON-LINE Catalogue

The Library reading areas have self-access internet ready computers.. to ease the burden of searching the books in each designated shelves. The Online catalogue is a very suitable tool. This is to check the status and availability of the books.

 

Reference

This service of the library aims to assist the student in their difficulties searching the references or topics of the student research. It support & help to find-out more resources of information and even guide them to fulfill their respective projects.

InterLibrary Loans (ILL)

Inter Library Loan is document delivery services, which supports research needs.

How to fill ILL form:

The user can get the form from here. Users have to print the ILL form and fill it out then submit it to Reference section staff.

Library Regulations

Referring to the Colleges of Technology regulation article no "G-19" code no "2, 3" Conceming to Librarian Head of Departments authority to put the rules, preserving the library contains. Thus, regulation must be issued the organizing reference of the processing rules in library so as develop the output importance of it.
Explanation: library regulation to borrow some books, its rules and principles are identifying how to deduce services which admit the academic community in colleges: (students, staff and employees). Beside that, explaining punishments against to who are not being responsible by the procedures and rules.
The aims of librarian regulation so as to preserve different library equipments, and work for admitting the distinguished services for the all

  • Pointing your ID card when you want to borrow any books.
  • No borrowing for essential dictionaries, encyclopedia and periodicals such as (journals, magazines and corridors).
  • Periodicals can be borrowed by the staff according to special arraignments
  • Library department can return some materials :( books) before appointing periods.
  • Borrowers aren’t borrowing the materials to any ones unless to return them to the library.
  • If the borrower or damages anything in library, he should pay the price or bring it.
  • The borrower should pay fine about 100 baisa for the students per day and 500 baisa for staff and employees per day if he doesn’t return on actual time.
  • Avoid spoiling any borrowed library materials or equipments and keep in mind your commitment to care and in order to preserve our services for incoming users.
  • Observe SILENCE: Be quiet when entering the library to avoid disturbances with others reading or studying.
