The Engineering Department is one of the three specialization department of Salalah of Technology and considered as the largest departments in terms of student's population. The department is divided into different sections that offers various programmes among engineering students.
First Year Diploma Section
The Engineering Department piloted the First Year Diploma Section for the first time in the summer semester of 2007.There is several motives behind this effort. Firstly, the engineering department contains the highest volume of students out of all the departments in the college. We have found that students coming from the foundation program face some difficulties in their new environment, so we took this step to create a more congenial atmosphere for our new learners.
This section is offering courses like Fundamentals of Chemistry ,Physics -1 and Physics -2.These courses act as a bridge that connects pure basic sciences with engineering practices.
The physics course covers the fundamentals of physics that are essential for engineering students. The major topics which are included are measurements, the basic principles of cosmology and astrophysics, elementary mechanics, work, energy and momentum oscillations, electric forces, field and electrical currents and technological applications. Other topics covered in this course are Electricity, Magnetism, LCR Circuits, Maxwell Equations, Optics, Heat & Thermodynamics, Kinetic Theory of Gases, Sound, and Modern Physics.
The chemistry course covers the basic concepts of chemistry, an integral part for those majoring in science and an essential background for those majoring in other disciplines.
Electrical Engineering is one of the three major sections of the Engineering Department. This section offers three programmes focusing on the fields of Computer, Power and Telecommunications.
The programme run at four levels, leading to First Year Diploma, Second Year Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Bachelor of Technology Degree.
Presently Electrical Section is offering two levels, namely Second Year Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering.
Electrical Engineering provides an integrated educational experience directed towards development of the ability to apply pertinent knowledge to the solution of practical problems in the graduate’s engineering technology specialty. It expands scientific and engineering knowledge by preparing our graduates for employment as computer analysts, power analysts, telecommunications analysts and engineering technologists through innovative research and hands-on training that responds to the needs and challenges of our ever-changing world.
Mechanical engineering is one of the largest, broadest, and oldest engineering disciplines. Mechanical engineering is the discipline that applies the principles of engineering, physics, and materials science for the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Mechanical Engineers play a significant role in the design and manufacturing of products & system that are essential for the day-to-day life.
Civil and Architectural Section
The section of Civil & Architectural Engineering at Salalah College of Technology, currently offers academic programmes for Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Bachelor levels in Civil Engineering and Architecture Engineering Specializations.
The courses being offered at all levels aim to enhance the technical knowledge and skills of the students in the field of civil, architecture and quantity surveying, where students learn the basics of each field of specialization and then link their knowledge by working on the project related to their field.
CHEMICAL ENGINEERING SECTION
The Chemical Engineering Section was established in 2009 to deliver graduates for employment in Oman intended for food processing, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, polymer and plastics, cement industries, water and wastewater treatment, oil and petrochemical industries.
Chemical Engineering applies the principles of applied mathematics, material and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, energy and mass transfer, separations technologies, chemical reaction kinetics and reactor design, and process design. These courses are built on a foundation in the sciences of chemistry, physics and biology.
The section offers Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Bachelor in Chemical Engineering.
