The College Dean, Dr Mohammed Rashid Al-Mamari, welcomed Mr. Fahad Al Shanfari, the Branch Manager of Bank Sohar for a collaborative meeting on June 1st, 2022. The Dean was joined by the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Mr Ahmed Al-Rawas.
Focus of the meeting was on the subject of mutual collaboration between UTAS-Salalah and Bank Sohar specifically on productive and mutually beneficial ways on how both parties can work in partnership to benefit both the staff and students
Future meetings are planned to be held between UTAS-Salalah and the different private sectors in pledge of one of the University’s goal to build on its relationship with the industry and its stakeholders.
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences- Salalah takes great pride in its globally relevant programs which produce graduates who become active citizens of Oman and positively impact our communities. Beyond its core objectives and vision, UTAS-Salalah has a commitment to be a responsible and ethical participant in the local and national community. With this, UTAS-Salalah continuously initiates and supports the public through different general outreach programs. For the 1st semester of the academic year of 2021-2022, twenty-nine (29) training programs were conducted for the public.
The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr Majdi Mohammed Bait Ali Sulaiman presented certificates of appreciation and recognition on May 8th, 2022 to the speakers from the departments of Engineering, Business, IT, English Language Center and Educational Technology Center who facilitated these programs and shared their expertise to the public.
UTAS-Salalah will continue to be an engaged institution which is involved and believed in strengthening the civic roles and social responsibilities of higher education institutions.
The Educational Technology Center (ETC) conducted a workshop entitled “Artificial Intelligence in the Digital Age” on April 13th, 2022 with an external expert as the resource speaker. Engr. Faisal Al-Ojaili, the Senior Director of Information Technology and Communication from the Salalah Free Zone facilitated the workshop which focused on the topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how its related technologies build connections between the different emerging technologies in the Digital Age. Engr Al-Ojaili, in his discussion, illustrated the implications of these technologies and demonstrated the different technological developments and advances through different contexts.
At the conclusion of the event, the College Dean, Dr Mohammed Rashid Al-Mamari, welcomed the guest speaker and presented him with recognition for his contributions to the College activity.
A series of future workshops are planned to be conducted on the topics related to the Digital Age for the staff and students to be at pace with the global developments in the age of technology and industrial revolution.
The College Dean, Dr Mohammed Al-Mamari together with the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr Majdi Mohammed Bait Ali Sulaiman, met the Dean of Oman College of Health Sciences, Dr Muna Shaban Al Ajzoon on April 12th, 2022.
Focus of the meeting was on the subject of collaboration between the two higher education institutions on the different areas such as on research, staff and student activities. Possible sharing of physical and staff resources between the two institutions were likewise discussed.
In carrying out the University’s commitment to strengthen its relationship with the different sectors and other HEIs, future meetings are planned to be held between the two parties to further strengthen the cooperation between the educational institutions.
The College Dean, Dr. Mohammed Rashid Al-Mamari together with his Assistant Deans and the Heads of Engineering Department and Educational Technology Center has met the newly hired staff of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Salalah on April 5th, 2022. The Dean, representing the College management, congratulated the new staff on the occasion of Ramadan and extended his compliments to the new staff on their new job position.
He likewise solicited their support in fulfilling the mission and the vision of the University. Three (3) new staff from Student Affairs, thirteen (13) new Engineering Technicians, and twelve (12) new IT Technicians were recently selected and appointed to UTAS-Salalah. A forum then convened to discuss key issues and explore important topics related to their new appointments. One of the topics discussed was the significance of the 8-month training that the new staff should undergo.
Finally, along and in affirmation with the Assistant Deans, the Dean expressed his confidence in the skills, dedication, and commitment of the new staff which will ultimately lead to new initiatives and contribute to the success of the University.
The University of Technology and Applied-Sciences-Salalah has signed a collaborative agreement with Hawthorn-Muscat English Language Center on March 30th, 2022 to establish IELTS Registration and IELTS Testing Services at UTAS-Salalah. The agreement was signed by the College Dean, Dr. Mohammed Rashid Al-Mamari and Mr. Suhail Mohammed Bahwan, the Center Manager of Hawthorn-Muscat in the presence of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Head of the English Language Center and the Heads of Sections of the English Language Center .
Hawthorn-Muscat English Language Center is engaged in the business of providing and marketing IELTS test registration services, and facilitating IELTS examination venues and with the signed agreement, UTAS-Salalah has become Hawthorn’s official exclusive Offsite Testing Venue and Registration Agent within the Dhofar Governorate.
The agreement aims to assist the students of UTAS-Salalah who hope to register and take the IELTS exams and shall also be opened to everyone from the Dhofar Governorate.

من هوثورن في المحافظة. تهدف هذه الاتفاقية لخدمة طلاب جامعة التقنية والعلوم التطبيقية بصلالة في الحصول على تدريب واختبارات (IELTS) في فرع الجامعة دون تجشم عناء السفر الى مسقط او اي مناطق أخرى، كما أنه من ضمن شروط الاتفاقية فتح المجال لجميع أبناء المحافظة من خارج الجامعة للاستفادة من هذه الخدمات وامكانية التقديم لاختبارات الايلتس.
Sheikh Jamal Bin Abdullah Al-Hinai, the Director General of Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in Dhofar Governorate and his accompanying delegation visited the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Salalah on March 23rd, 2022. The DG was accompanied by a delegation consisting of representatives from Oman Development Bank and SME Development Authority. The delegation were received and welcomed by the College Dean, Dr Mohammed Rashid Al-Mamari together with his Assistant Deans and Heads of Academic Departments.
Focus of the visit is to meet the students of UTAS-Salalah to acquaint them with the various services that the Ministry provides as well as the new investment laws. Presentations on the topics of entering new business ventures and on how the Oman Development Bank can provide assistance to entrepreneurs were delivered by the ODP representative. The SME Development Authority representative discussed the different industries in which entrepreneurs can venture on and how they can support future entrepreneurs. Sheikh Jamal Al Hinai closed the program with a presentation on successful small and medium enterprises in Oman and how the youth become successful entrepreneurs.
The visit of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion comes within the framework of continuous cooperation and coordination between the University and the Directorate as a confirmation of the government's endeavors for government institutions to enhance their performance and cooperation, to facilitate their services, and to promote investment and entrepreneurship.
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Salalah Health and Safety Committee in cooperation with the Civil Defense and Ambulance conducted an unannounced fire drill on March 23rd, 2022 to spread awareness about safe evacuation in cases of emergency situations. Students and staff were demonstrated on how to exit buildings in a timely and organized manner including the designated areas for evacuation assembly points.
The evacuation operation began moments after the fire alarm alerted all staff and students at the English Language Center. Staff and students were immediately evacuated from their classrooms and gathered at the assembly area where they were demonstrated fire alarm preventions and drills.
A series of future safety drills are planned to be conducted across all departments of the College.
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Salalah marked an institutional milestone in holding its Graduation Ceremony on March 16th, 2022 at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Center-Salalah. Under the Patronage of the College Dean, Dr. Mohammed Rashid Al-Mamari, the graduation of One Thousand and Seventy-Five (1075) students were conferred from the Engineering, Business and Information Technology specializations.
The momentous occasion was graced by the presence of the members of the University Management, honored guests from the different educational institutions, public and private sectors and the academic and academic support staff of the College.
On his commencement speech, the College Dean congratulated the graduates on their well-deserved success and expressed his pride on their achievements. The Dean likewise relayed some of the University’s major accomplishments in the previous academic years which represent a culmination of the University’s progress.
The Assistant Director General of Technological Education, Dr. Ali Saif Salim Al Harthy visited the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Salalah on March 17th, 2022. The Assistant DG was welcomed by the management team of UTAS-Salalah led by the Dean, Dr Mohammed Rashid Al-Mamari together with the Assistant Deans. Focus of the visit was to be acquainted with the on-going progress, initiatives, existing resources and possible requirements of the College. He was likewise briefed by the College Dean on the progress and development of work towards ensuring the facilitation of the integration process between the Technical and Applied Sciences branches.
Dr. Ali Al Harthy is one of the honored guests in the UTAS-Salalah’s Graduation Ceremony held on March 16th, 2022 and he commended the management and the organizers of the ceremony for a successful event.
The management delegation comprising of the Deans and the Assistant Deans of UTAS-Salalah College of Technology and UTAS-College of Applied Sciences met on March 3rd, 2022.
Focus of the meeting was on commencing the central integration procedures in relation to merging the two branches and in identifying the key items moving forward.
Subject of continuous collaboration between the two branches was likewise discussed on the areas of research, staff and student activities such as workshops. Sharing of physical and staff resources between the two branches were officiated.
Future meetings are planned to be held both at the university and departmental levels to further strengthen the cooperation between the two branches.
As the pilot program for the upcoming series of Staff Professional Development Programs at UTAS- Salalah, a training workshop entitled “Computer Literacy for Workplace Productivity” started on February 21st , 2022 which is facilitated by Mr Ali Imad Ammary from the Educational Technology Center. This training program intends to provide computer competencies the participants need to succeed in a modern workplace including the implementation and usage of new software applications most common to the workplace.
The series of development programs which resulted from the Training Needs Assessment conducted by the University is organized by the College Staff Development Committee. The University recognizes that its staff are central to its success and that a professional and strategic approach to staff development is necessary to ensure that the staff will contribute fully to the achievement of the University’s goals and objectives.

A delegation from the Eidaad Team met students from the different specializations of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Salalah on February 9th, 2022 to introduce the purpose, benefits and the registration process of the "Eidaad" program. As part of the efforts to enhance the industrial and academic cooperation, that is, bridging the gap between industrial and academic institutions, Eidaad is a valuable collaboration between The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MOHERI) and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) in cooperation with academic institutions. The program similarly aims to provide a combined internal training program for a full academic year that focuses on upgrading highly skilled students, developing their practical abilities and building the students’ practical technical skills before graduation.
The College Dean, Dr. Mohammed Rashid Al-Mamari together with the College Council members welcomed the delegation headed by Mr. Hamed Al- Hadhrami, External Learning & Development Manager, and discussed cultivating the roles of educational institutions in building the students’ capabilities and practical experiences to achieve compatibility with the needs of the labor market and the industries.
A future awareness workshop was agreed to be delivered for the lecturers for the academic staff to learn more about the Eidaad Program.

Focus of the meeting was on the subject of mutual collaboration between UTAS-Salalah and ONEIC specifically on how the latter can accept On-the-Job Training (OJT) students in the company. In addition to fulfilling their academic requirements, in these trainings, students can acquire general and practical work experience and apply the skills they attained from the College and acquire new relevant skills. Other topics discussed include mutually beneficial ways on how both parties can work in partnership to benefit both the staff and students.
