The University of Technology and Applied Sciences – Salalah welcomed 1098 new intakes from different regions across the Sultanate of Oman for the new Academic Year of 2022-2023.
Under the patronage of the Dean of UTAS-Salalah, Dr Mohammed Rashid Al Mamari, the induction and orientation of new students was conducted on September 11th, 2022, and was organized by the English Language Center chaired by Mr Saeed Salim Al Mashiki, the Head of the English Language Center.
Students were gathered based on their respective groups and room assignments in the main and new buildings of the ELC, while their parents/guardians were gathered at the Multi-purpose Hall to witness the program.
The orientation started with the assigned tutors for each group of students presenting the University vision, mission, goals, values, and graduate attributes, teaching and learning in the General Foundation Program, uses of the e-learning, moodle, college email, CIMS (Colleges Information Management System), the Self-Access Center and its services, class scheduling, assessment plan, continuous assessment, study program and most importantly, the University policies.
The induction program commenced with the message from the University Vice Chancellor, His Excellency Dr Saeed Bin Hamad Al-Rubaie, who warmly welcomed and congratulated the new students for joining the UTAS academic community. HE, the VC, likewise stressed on the crucial roles of educational institutions such as UTAS, in building knowledge and creativity and that the students’ dedication to their studies would be beneficial to them, to their families and to the development of our beloved country. Subsequently, the Dean at UTAS-Salalah welcomed the new intakes of UTAS-Salalah together with their parents/guardians and wished them success and achievements throughout their study. He likewise encouraged them to make the most and take advantage of the different resources and services offered by the University and to further develop their skills by participating in the different activities such as student clubs, workshops and extra-curricular activities.
Also, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Mr Ahmed Al Rawas, welcomed the new students and was joined by a representative from the Student Council.
Finally, the program culminated with the inspirational and welcome message from the Head of the ELC. He thanked and acknowledged the Dean for his relentless support to the Center, the College Council, Student Advisory Council, Educational Technology Center, Student Affairs Department, Admission and Registration Department, three academic departments, and other staff at UTAS-Salalah for contributing to the success of the induction program.
