Students’ project qualifies for 8th URVC in Abu Dhabi

The research project of four students taking up Chemical Engineering at UTAS-Salalah has qualified for the 8th Undergraduate Virtual Research Competition (URVC) to be held in Abu Dhabi University, Abu Dhabi, UAE on May 19, 2021. Their project title is “Plant Economics for Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Manufacturing Process.”

The objective of the project is to calculate the total capital investment and annual gross profit for a PET manufacturing plant with a capacity of 400 TPD (tons per day). The research ranges from site selection to process design, including mechanical design and layout.

The upcoming competition is to be hosted by Abu Dhabi University through the support of H.E. Hussain Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education. The goal of the competition is to encourage universities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to promote scientific research among undergraduate students and make it an integral part of university education. 

Meanwhile, the four students are Amna Ali Mohammed Makoof Zabanoot, Shuaa Hilal Bakhit Fadhel, Al Wafaa Ahmed Suhail Qatan, and Khadijah Hamid Musallam Bait Said with Dr. Sivamani Selvaraju as their Project Supervisor.
