As a part of the “ICPC 2019” (International Collegiate Programming Contest), the “OCPC -2019” (Oman Collegiate Programming Contest) was held on 13th and 14th October, 2019 at Grand Hall, Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat. A total of 152 students (36 teams) from 23 universities participated in this prestigious two-day competition. On behalf of Salalah College of Technology (SCT), three students namely: Mr. Tamam Rajab Said Bait Brakah, Mr. Abdul Rahman Naif Mohammed Al Yafii, and Mr. Said Mahad Suhail Al-Maashani from Information Technology Department participated as members of the SCT-IT team.
The first day of the event started with inductions, trainings, 4 hours practice session, and an excursion to Opera House, Muscat. The second day of the event started with the 5 hours core contest and ended with the valedictory ceremony. SCT-IT team acquired great experience and training to develop their programming skills prime for the IT industry jobs. The sponsor of the event assured the student participants would get job opportunities by attending the interviews that will be conducted in the future.
The team supervisor was Dr. Wilfred Blessing N.R, Lecturer of the Information Systems (IS) section. He was selected also as Board Member of the OCPC. Mr. Suresh Kumar P., Lecturer of the Math section was the team’s special trainer whom trained the students in problem solving, logical thinking and reasoning prior to the competition. The participants thank the coaches for the necessary training and support. They also extend their gratitude to Dr. Anwar Al Ismaili, College Dean, Dr. Fatima Al-Shanfari, Head of IT Department, and Dr. Abhishek Dubey, Head of IS Section for the motivation, support and facilities.
