The Multimedia Section of the College of Computing and Information Sciences-UTAS Salalah branch organized a seminar entitled "Dimensions of Business Analysis - Industry Perspective” with the initiative from Dr. Abhishek Dubey, HOS-Multimedia. It was held on 29th of December 2022 from 12:30 PM-1:30 PM at BSIT-6C in BSIT Building.

The objective of the seminar is to understand the role of business analysis from multiple industry dimensions to help educators prepare and make their students industry-ready.

Dr. Abhishek Dubey gave the welcome remarks and introduced the invited speaker, Mr. Vinay Pandey, the Senior Vice President-Consulting Services of E-Zest Solutions in India.

The speaker gave an interesting discussion on the historical perspective of business analysis, and its growing relevance across industries. He elaborated his talk on the business dimensions of business analysis pertaining to the processes and functions involved, the industries, the tools used, and the skills required. In addition to that, the speaker also tackled the IT dimensions of business analysis in terms of its functional, industry, technology, and consulting domains, roles and responsibilities, tools used, and the skills required.

Apart from the valuable insights shared, one of the significant highlights was the part where the speaker persuasively delivered the industry expectations from the academe in terms of technical and basic skills that students should be trained on and acquire when he/she graduates. The discussion focused also on understanding the education and industry gap, and the expectations from business analysis professionals in today's fast-changing world.

Finally, the speaker opened up on the future trends focusing on digital transformation, data engineering, data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, block chain, and low code / no code platforms (Platform-as-a-Service).

After, an interactive discussion followed between the participants and the speaker. It was indeed a great opportunity to hear the inputs shared by the speaker and the IT lecturers to clarify and verify if the current practices in the academe match the industry’s needs and how to bridge the gap.

Dr. Fatima Al-Shanfari, Head of the IT Department gave a thanks note and plans to conduct more industry collaboration activities. The seminar concluded with the awarding a certificate of appreciation to the speaker by the organizing team.
